The Task to be Completed

There was a task to be completed, which God had set to be done and two men wanted to have a go to complete it.

The first man was rather awkward and backhanded with how he went about it.
He stumbled and fell, but carried on all the same. Trying to do what he thought was best.

The second man on the other hand knew exactly what to do, and knew how to go about it.
He made his plan and made good progress.

Which man do you think would have pleased God the most?

We may all think that it was the second man for he got the results.
But, is this what really pleases God???

What if the second man only did what he did because he saw that he could personally gain from what he was doing, and knew that it would make him look good and impressive to others?

Where as the first man, just simply saw a need and wanted to fill that need.
Even though he didn’t know quite what to do, and in spite of the knowledge that he knew he was looking like someone who didn’t know what he was doing, yet he still carried on trying all the same, just to fill the need.

So often we look at the results of an action and not the heart behind it.
It’s just easier to see the results, for us.

What’s more important to God though?

Who would God have been pleased with?
The second man, who saw an opportunity for personal gain?
Or the first man who had a right heart?

1 Samuel 16:6-7
When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.”

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Jeremiah 17:7-10
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
    whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”

The heart is deceitful above all things
    and beyond cure.
    Who can understand it?

10 “I the Lord search the heart
    and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.”
