How many times have you been on the receiving end of the above statement?
We’ve all probably been there at some point in time. 🙂
Another version that I heard as I was growing up was, “Don’t ask…. Don’t get!”
How many parents have echoed those words, through the years? Many, probably.
How many times does our Heavenly Father think them words about us?
Do we give Him more opportunities to think them than we should?
I’ve been seeing the view point of the other side of this, just recently.
I’ve been working on a project for a family member, for a while now. I kind of think that it should have been finished a while ago now, but it is still on going. (At the time that I write this.)
Part of the reason it’s not finished is because I’ve not been working on it.
But, a lot of the reason for me not working on it is that, I’ve not been asked to work on it???
I’ve said, “Arrange a time for me to come round to work on it.” But the tumble weed flows past, and not much else happens. 😦
I am partly aware of some of the reasons for nothing being arranged.
The family member doesn’t want to be a burden.
They feel that I already have enough to do, and they do not want to add to my load, even though I want to see the project finished.
But I don’t want to be the sole driving force, moving the project forward. I need for them to take ownership of the project.
It’s a very frustrating position to be in. It’s kind of like…
I want to do this, but I need for you to want it too. I know that you do want this to happen, but I need for you to show me that you want it to happen by doing something instead of just waiting for me to just turn up and take the lead. I need for you to take ownership of this, and then we can start to work on this, together.
Have we ever left Our Heavenly Father feeling a similar way about us?
Is there something that He just wants to give to us, if we would just ask for it?
Is there anything that we should be stepping towards, because He is leading us to …… , but we just don’t want to take any steps towards ….. ?
Do we sometimes, just want Our God to do all of the work and hand us a finished ….. , instead of it being a partnership with us working together with Our Lord God Almighty to complete …… ?
Do we sometimes, need to make the first step of, just asking for ….. ?
Matthew 7:7-11
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
